I am trying to investigate what might be causing random lock ups in Windows (XP & 7) but have not yet been able to shed any light on the matter.
Here is a summary of the issue:
1) Nothing in event logs
2) I am able to ping the PC but not able to access the C$ or remotely view the services / processes
3) I can sometimes use PSKILL to kill winlogon and thus reboot the PC
This issue started to occur in XP so I believe it's an application issue but I can't track it down. I think it may have something to do with SOPHOS antivirus but no leads there as it is the most common application in our environment.
What options do I have to be able to track the issue better?
