Got a blue screen while saving a file. I hit 'save as', screen went black and the message popped up. I caught 'ntfs.sys' at the top before my laptop rebooted.

I have yet to try to save anything else to the hard drive since the reboot. I am able to load files and save/copy to a flash drive. I was just wanting to get my question posted before I continue investigating. I plan on booting into safe mode and using 'chkdsk /f' as well as checking the registry with ccleaner afterwards.
But I would like to ask, is there anything else besides the hard drive and/or corruption of the partition/file system that caused this error?
The most recent changes to my laptop have been
-Update to iTunes
-Downloaded Skyrim from Steam and played several hours
